Blockchain for Internet of Things
What is B4Things?
A conference that explores the Blockchain as a technology that can improve Internet of things.
The billions of smart devices coming to the internet of things could transform homes, cities and lives. But they also could create a serious security headache.
The centralized security model common in the enterprise today will struggle to scale up to meet the demands of the internet of things, or IoT. And, with so many devices designed to be tiny and unobtrusive, pulling them from circulation could be difficult if they are captured in a botnet or go rogue.
Blockchain, and the combination of cryptographic processes behind it, offers an intriguing alternative. Because blockchain is built for decentralized control, a security scheme based on it should be more scalable than a traditional one. And blockchain’s strong protections against data tampering would help prevent a rogue device from disrupting a home, factory or transportation system by relaying misleading information.
The Blockchain could be used as an universal database to identify devices and its owners. A place to store description, functions, locations and price (if the device is ready to be hired or bought). We can track the unique history of individual devices by recording a ledger of data exchanges from it and other devices, web services, and human users.
Digital dentification models not just for people, but for things. Payments, micropayments and nanopayments between machines. Even bartering services could be possible. … hours of service of a particular device could be exchanged for information provided for another one. Lightning networks, offchain payment, new payments instruments…
We could make use of Smart Contracts to set the rules on how the devices relate (collaborate) with each other. This way, no intermediary is needed when any internet connected device wants to buy information…Also this intelligent agents are able to negotiate prices, discover new providers and more with autonomously functions. New blockchains, tangle, IOTA and many startups doing some real good innovation in the field.
